Lesson Plan for Musical Instruments 1
- Give out the worksheets and ask which instruments (if any) they know the name of. Tell them the ones they don't know. (The answers are: violin, flute, guitar, clarinet, saxophone, harp, piano, French horn).
- Show them the words at the bottom and ask them to draw a line to the correct instrument. For pre-literacy ask them to identify the first letter of the word; older children can read the words.
- Discuss which ones they think they know the sound of.
- Play the music excerpts and see if they can match the music to the instrument, ticking them off the worksheet as they go. Play only a short clip from each piece, 5-10 seconds or so.
- You could get them to dance along.
- Ask which piece of music they liked best.
- Colour in the worksheet. Play the excerpts again (in full) as background music, while they colour. See which they can remember the second time round.
Notes:
You can use your own choice of music of course, but here's a play list featuring the instruments on the printable worksheet. Don't let the children watch the video - try to get them to identify the musical instrument by its sound.
